In 2006, I first began creating glass beads. I enjoyed making adorable beads with pictures of dogs, cats, fish, and even turtles, but I was unsure of what to do with them. We had also recently purchased a Vitamix blender and were preparing smoothies each morning. The only smoothie straw we were aware of was a plastic one, and the kids demanded straws for their drinks. Then, late one night, fed up with our kitchen drawers overflowing with plastic straws and feeling guilty for using so many of them, I had a lightbulb moment. I came to the realisation that I might be producing reusable glass drinking straws instead of glass beads. That evening, GlassSipper was created and I was able to combine my passion for creating glass art with my desire to protect the environment. My husband Fred gave up his practise of law and joined GlassSipper in the summer of 2016. Together, we're dedicated to replacing plastic drinking straws with our reusable, toxic-free, environmentally responsible, and entertaining glass drinking straws. We have two teenage boys, a border collie puppy, and we live in Vancouver, British Columbia, close to the beach. Despite using GlassSippers frequently, the boys have not yet joined the family.
