Ann's Tweed is created by Ann Cruickshanks and Daniel Paulo. Both enjoy hill and mountain walking in the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and Scotland, and try to incorporate outdoor experiences into work. Tweed was woven on a Hattersley Domestic loom, possibly in the mid-nineteenth century, by G Hattersley & Sons, Keighley. These machines are difficult to date because they are built to endure forever. But they are most likely no older than 1924.

These were the looms that were used to weave Harris Tweed. And they are still used by independent weavers on the Outer Hebrides today, but mill weavers mostly use the double width Griffith loom. Had been experimenting with a Rigid Heddle and a floor loom before purchasing. The Hattersley and had been interested in weaving for some time. A trip to Harris and Lewis in 2015 aroused interest even more.

Had to design means to warp and beam the loom after it was disassembled, and eventually discovered that the loom was considerably more successful when the warping and beaming were done properly. Weavers on Harris and Lewis, particularly Donald John Mackay at Luskentyre, Dominic Tooley, and Alexander McClean, have been tremendously helpful.
